Inspired By Date Night With Bella

Bella was wrapped in a cast and with head staples with strict orders from Vet for minimal movement.  I was hand feeding her boiled chicken as she lay in her doggie bed watching me cook for her.  I’d cooked too much chicken and decided to make chicken noodle soup for the rest of the family.  I started to think of the quality time Bella and I were spending in the kitchen cooking; and I thought ‘It’s Date Night’ with Bella…or, Date Night • Dog Night.  So here we are, sharing our recipes for cooking and baking family treats & dog treats!

Making Candy Cane Treats

Candy Cane Treat Recipe

  • 1Refill Box PetCakes Cheese mix (ALL 3 packets)

  • 1/3 cup Water

  • 2 Tbsp Plain nonfat greek yogurt (sugar-free)

  • 1/2 tsp Peppermint flavoring 1 drop Red food coloring*

You will also need extra flour for rolling out dough and non-stick spray

STEP 1: Mix all ingredients and form into a dough ball. Refrigerate for 1 hour.

STEP 2: Heat oven to 350ºf. Remove dough from refrigerator and separate into two equal balls, placing one off to the side. Add red coloring* to only one dough ball, mix in to dough thoroughly.

STEP 3: Starting with the white ball first, separate into 6 portions and roll out long strands about 12” long and keeping an even thickness. Half the strands to 6”. Repeat step with red dough ball.

STEP 4: Place one red and one white dough strand together and twist together. Curl down one end to form candy cane shape. Place on greased cookie sheet and Bake for 20-25 minutes. Freeze until ready to serve. The more cooked they are the longer they will last.

*Substitute red food coloring dye with beet powder for a healthy alternative.

Making Sweet Potato Soufflé

Sweet Potato Soufflé Recipe

  • 1 Packet PetCakes Frosting Mix (ONE packet)

  • 2 Large Organic Sweet Potatoes

  • 1/2 cup Water

  • 1 Tbsp Turmeric 1 Egg
     

You will also need non-stick spray and a heart shaped silicone molds or PetCakes pans (for oven use cupcake pan).

STEP 1: Clean and peel potatoes and place into microwave safe bowl with ½ cup of water and cover.

STEP 2: Cook on high in microwave for 5 minutes. Flip over and cut in half and microwave for 4 minutes. Potatoes should be very soft.

STEP 3: Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. I use a potato masher or blender.

STEP 4: Fill heart shaped silicone pans ½ full with sweet potato mixture and pack down

STEP 5: Cook in Microwave for 3:30 and let cool before removing them to a plate
 

Oven Directions: Fill cupcake molds (or any oven safe container) ½ full with the Sweet Potato mixture. Cook at 375º F for 15-20 minutes until done.

Making Turkey Paws

Turkey Paws Recipe

  • 1 Refill Box PetCakes Pizza (one packet of mix per pound)

  • 1 lb Organic Ground Turkey

  • 1 Egg (one egg per pound)


​You will also need non-stick spray and PetCakes bone pan (for oven use paw print baking pan or cookie sheet).

STEP 1: Mix ground turkey, 1 packet of PetCakes Pizza Mix & 1 Egg in large bowl
 

Microwave Directions

  • Use a PetCakes Bone Shaped Pan and fill with turkey mixture and pack down

  • Cook for 2:30 minutes or until done.

  • Repeat until all the Turkey mixture has been used.

 

Oven Directions

  • Heat Oven to 350 degrees

  • Evenly pack Turkey mixture into paw print pan or cupcake pan

  • Cook for 25 minutes or until done.

  • I prefer the Oven Directions for this recipe because it gets the edges brown and crispy and I use all of the mix at once.
     

Serve your fur babies their holiday dinner while you eat yours!

Easy Peasy Puppy Pizza

Puppy Pizza Recipe

Pizza Dough Ingredients

  • 1Refill Box PetCakes Pizza (2 packets)

  • 1/4 cup Water

  • 1 Tbsp Organic tomato paste


Pizza Toppings Ingredients

  • 2 Tsp Organic Tomato Paste

  • 2 Organic baby carrots (shredded)

  • 1 Organic broccoli floret (cut into tiny pieces)

  • ¼ Organic zucchini & yellow squash (thinly sliced)

  • 1 Tbsp Freshly grated parmesan cheese 1 Tbsp Shaved parmesan cheese

Dough Directions

Mix all ingredients well forming dough ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate 40-60 minutes

Oven Directions

STEP 1: Heat Oven to 475 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Spray 9” Pie Pan with non stick coating.

STEP 2: Press dough crust evenly into the pie pan. Spread tomato paste evenly over the un-cooked dough. STEP 3: Add the grated parmesan cheese to the top of the pizza. Add carrots and broccoli next. Neatly arrange zucchini & squash around pizza without overlapping. Lastly, top off with the shaved parmesan.

STEP 4: Bake at 475 for 8-10 minutes. STEP 5: Allow pizza to cool before serving in 6 evenly shaped slices.

Always resist the temptation to NEVER serve your dog human pizza or anything with: ONIONS, GARLIC, SALT or PEPPER.

Spinach and Cheese Pup Tarts

Pup Tart Recipe

Tart Crust Ingredients

  • 1Refill Box PetCakes Cheese Mix (2 packets)

  • 1/4 c Water

  • 2-1/2 tsp Plain low-fat Greek yogurt


Spinach and Cheese Tart Filling Ingredients

  • 4 oz. (1/2 pk) Cream cheese

  • 1/3 c Frozen spinach (thawed and strained)

  • ¼ c Plain low-fat Greek yogurt

  • 1 tsp Dill

Crust Directions

Mix all ingredients well, forming dough ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate 20 minutes. Optional: With left over dough continue making more tart cups OR use ½” bone-shaped cookie cutter to make tiny bones to top off the finished product.

 

STEP 1: Spray mini cupcake pan with non-stick coating.

STEP 2: Roll out dough into thin layer and cut into 2” rounds.

STEP 3: Form the 2” round cut-outs into the mini cupcake pan to form tart cups.

STEP 4: Bake at 375ª for 5-7 minutes or until edges are golden brown.

Filling Directions

Mix all ingredients until smooth & spoon into cooled cup-shaped tarts, or fill baggy, clip tip and squeeze mix into cooled cup-shaped tarts
